BUILDER RATING
The City of Austin's Green Builder Program is our nations oldest and most well respected green building program. Green building means the resource-efficient design, construction, and operation of homes. It represents an approach to both building and marketing homes that highlights environmental quality-both inside and outside the home.
Only about two hundred 4-Star Green Builder rated homes have been built in Austin since the Green Builder Program was conceived in 1991. The Melton Engineering and Homebuilders' Indian Creek Homes are among this elite group.
A green home is one that is healthy, comfortable, efficient, durable and low maintenance - all the things that most people expect from a quality building. Green Builder rated homes are more environmentally friendly than traditionally built homes. Green homes are more friendly towards natural resources than traditional homes. Less pollution is produced during their construction, and because they are more efficient to operate than traditionally built homes, less pollution is generated as a result of their operation. The benefits of this energy efficiency is not only to the environment, but to the homeowner. Green homes simply cost less to run than their traditionally built counterparts.
